Research Engineer

  • Played crucial role in five FAA sponsored projects, each averaging over half million dollars in funding. Project duties involved Literature Review, Requirements Analysis and Development, Hardware/Software Development and Testing, Flight Testing, Post-Flight Data Review, Aircraft Flight Dynamics and Controls Modeling and Simulation, Test Data Analysis and Reporting, Project Management and Report Writing.
  • Performed Failure Flight Testing on several COTS UAS, and analyzed post-flight data. Identified design characteristic of one COTS UAS that improved its safety, thus, benefitting customer.
  • Performed high-fidelity Modeling and Simulation of COTS UAS to estimate post-failure impact characteristics. Developed and validated flight dynamic models and modeled vehicle controller behavior mimicking Ardupilot/PX4.
  • Developed novel high-fidelity modelling technique of estimating Probability of Collision of UAS with non-participating people for any given CONOPS. Collaborating with industry partners to market this work and develop modular software tools.
  • Performed Requirements Analysis and Definitions and System Architecture development for project proposal development while collaborating with researchers, faculty and industry partners to win external funding.
  • Supported design, development and testing of Compound Helicopter - addition of wings for additional lift and ducted fan for propulsion. Performed aircraft sizing and preliminary performance calculations.
  • Designed, developed and tested UAS payloads to support academic research - Infrared and Multispectral Camera payload for Soil Moisture estimation, Solar Panels inspection and wildfire modeling, respectively
  • Hands-on experience implementing and testing, both SIL and HIL, novel Vehicle Control Algorithm on COTS quadcopter inside Motion Capture Lab.
  • Supported development and testing of vision-based localization of robot in an area around a 3D reference object using a single camera only. Gained hands-on experience with Computer Vision, and perception.
  • Possesses extensive knowledge and modest hands-on experience with perception, path-planning, sensor fusion, localization, modern control techniques, swarming, Fault Detection, Isolation and Reconfiguration (FDIR) algorithms, Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMEA), man-machine teaming and Artificial Intelligence/ Machine Learning gained through supporting UAH staff and faculty research and working on proposals, collaborating with faculty and commercial industry partners.
