• Maintain compliance with HIPAA and code of conduct policies, both working on-campus and remotely.
• Conduct daily concurrent reviews of inpatient medical records via EMR (Meditech) and Claro Healthcare Software to identify opportunities to clarify missing, incomplete, and/or conflicting documentation.
• Collaborate with providers, nutritionists, coders, case managers, and fellow CDIS to ensure a complete health record. Often done through email, secure texting application (Cortext), Skype, Phone, Zoom, and/or interdisciplinary rounds.
• Issue compliant electronic queries to treating providers when documentation clarification is needed. Also responsible for the follow-up of pending queries and ensuring the provider response has been documented properly.
• Collaborate monthly via Zoom with coding professionals and fellow CDIS to discuss challenging cases, coding clinic updates/changes, and DRG mismatches to help improve accuracy of final coded data.
• Analyze and gather data (clinical indicators) within the electronic health record that provides clinical validation for documented diagnoses.
• Analyze diagnoses often queried for and collaborate with the appropriate entities to educate and train physicians to decrease the number of queries.
• Act as an intermediary between coders and providers by assisting with Second Level Reviews.
• Provide feedback to Claro Healthcare Software regarding creation and/or update of query templates and any issues related to the application.
• For continuing education: Participate in monthly ACDIS and Pinson and Tang Webinars. Complete MyClaroLearning modules when time allows.
