PROJECT

Clap Off Switch (Spring 2020)

  • Electric condenser microphone used as a sound sensor
  • Components used in project were AT tiny 85, NE5534, IC Socket, 20kohm potentiometer, Knob, Resistor Kit, 100nF capacitor, 1N4002 Diode, BC 637 NPN Transistor, Relay, 5-9 Volts battery source, AC socket (input and output), Bridge wire, shielded wire, and AC wire
  • 1 k ohm resistor and 100 nF capacitor were used at the outputs and saw small voltage bursts in the oscilloscope whenever I clap, and the peak voltage was 200mV
  • AT tiny 85 has 10 bits analog to digital converter which can recognize steps around 5mV but there was a problem with distortion and not enough steps to program specific patterns
  • NE5534 resistor and 20kohm resistor was used to amplify which created beefed up audio signal and peaks up to 4.4V and DC offset of around 2.5V and by changing the resistance of potentiometer closer to zero, the amplification increases which was used to adjust the sensitivity of the circuit depending how far the position of the clap was placed
  • MPLAB software was used where I used a pattern of two claps with a slight pause in between them
  • 5V relay was used in the circuit which allowed later to turn on all sorts AC appliances in combination with diode and NPN transistor as a switch it worked like a charm
  • We were able to apply knowledge and skills to solve authentic problems and produce results successfully
