Work History

Instructor

Stanford University
Palo Alto, CA
10.2021 - Current
  • Department of Neurology. Advisor: Dr. Michelle Monje, MD PhD
  • Leading several multi-lab collaborations coordinating with an active clinical trial run by Dr. Monje aimed at identifying improvements in CAR T-cell immunotherapy efficacy in real time. These projects utilize patient samples and data to design and run rodent experiments, testing and generating new hypotheses for improving treatment of pediatric gliomas with the intention of bringing these treatment modifications back into the clinic.
  • Under the guidance of Dr. Monje, coordinating and managing the launch of a new field of research in the lab investigating neural immune interactions after mild respiratory illnesses such as COVID and influenza. This multi-disciplinary effort brings together multiple labs across institutions in the US to collaborate.
  • Training and mentoring multiple PhD students, postdocs and clinical research fellows across a wide range of projects, particularly in establishing new-to-us respiratory illness models and research.

Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Stanford University
Palo Alto, CA
09.2015 - 10.2021
  • Department of Neurology. Advisor: Dr. Michelle Monje, MD PhD
  • Investigated the mechanism through which neuronal activity regulates adaptive myelination in cortical projection neurons and how dysfunction of myelin plasticity contributes to cognitive disease, namely chemotherapy-related cognitive impairment (CRCI) or “chemobrain”.
  • Identified BDNF-TrkB signaling as a required component of activity-dependent myelination and probed the role of myelin plasticity in non-motor cognitive function using genetic mouse models and optogenetic techniques.
  • Investigated mechanisms of long-term cognitive impairment after CAR-T immunotherapy for brain and blood cancers, establishing within the lab a functional CAR T-cell research program.
  • Designed research projects and wrote and published peer-reviewed articles

Graduate Research

University Of California, Berkeley
Berkeley, CA
08.2009 - 05.2015

Advisor: Dr. Daniela Kaufer, PhD

Thesis: The Role of RFRP-3 in chronic stress induced reproductive dysfunction and astrocyte communication

  • Investigated CNS neurobiology of the hypo-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPG) and regulation of reproductive physiology by long-term chronic unpredictable stress
  • Utilized behavioral assays for testing fecundity in female rats after stress
  • Probed the neuroendocrine disruptions in hypothalamic reproductive regulation after chronic stress using viral manipulations, immunohistochemistry and gene and protein expression changes in a rat model.
  • Supervised and trained undergraduates, designed research projects and wrote peer-reviewed publications

Undergraduate Research Assistant

University Of California, Berkeley
Berkeley, CA
01.2007 - 05.2009

2007-2009 Department of Integrative Biology, University of California, Berkeley

Advisor: Dr. Daniela Kaufer, PhD

  • Investigated the functional connection between the stress neuroendocrine response and a novel hypothalamic reproductive inhibitory hormone, GnIH in rats using immunohistochemistry and gene expression changes.

2007 Department of Integrative Biology, University of California, Berkeley

Advisor: George Bentley, PhD

  • Studied seasonal variations in reproductive hormones in starlings using immunohistochemistry.
